Janne engages in dialogue with Rachel Ruysch, the amazing painter from the Dutch Golden Age. Both were born on the same day (the 3rd of June) with 320 years’ difference, that’s why he numbers the paintings consecutively, starting from 1664. Using her flower arrangements as starting point, he then quickly takes off in search of something that seems on the brink of abstraction. Notice the precarious balance between the fastidiously arranged compositions and the barely contained fury. A modern classic.
