Summer Night
2017
Nadja Mikkilä
Acrylic on canvas
70 x 100 cm
Nadja often works simultaneously on several paintings -up to ten at one time- and lets them “mature” until they’re ready. This one took more than a year, and received an unexpected thrust when she lost a dear friend. He was a gardener and had a beautiful pink house surrounded by an amazing garden, with apple trees and all kinds of flowers (he loved flowers, especially white ones). The painting evokes a late August summer night, when light begins to recede and the air becomes dewy.
